Title: WAREHOUSE MATERIAL HANDLER

Primary Function:
Shipping and receiving of warehoused items
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possess a valid Virginia Operators License
- Ability to work well with people and maintain a pleasant and positive attitude
- Good knowledge of inventory control
- Must be extremely flexible
- Experienced in the use of forklift and other warehouse moving devices
- Possess excellent organizational skills
- Willing to work flexible hours
- Working knowledge of computers
- Must be able to work from written instructions
- Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records
- Ability to move, load, and unload equipment and supplies weighing 50 pounds and participate with manual or mechanical assistance in unloading of significantly heavier equipment and supplies
Performance Responsibilities:
- Ship and receive warehoused items
- Plan item locations within a well prescribed overall storage plan
- Execute and complete assigned work orders
- Furnish cafeteria and cleaning functions with warehoused items from written work orders
- Clean warehouse and adjacent outside areas, as required
- Check walk-in refrigerator and freezer twice daily
- Maintain rotation of stock
- Adhere to established warehousing policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager of Property and Warehouse Services
- Assist with the receiving, preparation tagging, and distribution of textbooks and equipment
- Assist in establishing student records archives in warehouse complex and maintain records as required.
- Delivery of inter-office mail on regular basis or as needed
- Deliver cash/checks to bank for deposit
- Pack, unpack, load, and unload warehoused books and stock, and move boxes/items up to 50 pounds as needed
- Assist operations departments with other duties as assigned

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Lift 50 pounds unassisted to a waist high level
- Can stand for extended periods of time
- Can understand and follow written and verbal instruction
- Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate equipment and/or other equipment
In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the School Division may suspend normal operations and/or cancel classes. If this occurs, all employees deemed essential must remain at or report to their work as soon as conditions reasonably permit. The designation of essential depends on an employee’s duties as well as the circumstances for suspension of normal operations.
Reports to:
Associate Director of Maintenance and Facilities Support
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to pay scale for classified employees.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
