Title: ACADEMIC TUTOR
Position Type:
Non-Exempt
Primary Function:
Provides on-site tutoring to students in need of additional academic support in the areas of literacy and/or math.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School education; some college coursework preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Possess knowledge of the English language and reading comprehension.
- Possess knowledge of mathematical processes and skills.
- Possess knowledge of appropriate and effective instructional strategies for learners of different age levels.
- Ability to work with students one-on-one and in small groups.
- Ability to attend training and/or job orientation.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned.
- Ability to monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Consults with classroom teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors concerning the instructional needs of students who require academic support in the areas of literacy and/or math.
- Meets with students requiring academic improvement.
- Assists students in skill practice and reinforcement activities, previously introduced by the teacher(s).
- Complies with state laws, school board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Maintains a consistent, positive, and professional rapport with students.
- Works cooperatively with colleagues, support staff, and administration.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Principal or Designee
Terms of Employment:
Part-time, at a rate of $26 per hour, 10 months a year. Assigned to school/s location/s as needed.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of licensed personnel.
