Title:   ACADEMIC TUTOR

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Provides on-site tutoring to students in need of additional academic support in the areas of literacy and/or math.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School education; some college coursework preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Possess knowledge of the English language and reading comprehension.
• Possess knowledge of mathematical processes and skills.
• Possess knowledge of appropriate and effective instructional strategies for learners of different age levels.
• Ability to work with students one-on-one and in small groups.
• Ability to attend training and/or job orientation.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned.
• Ability to monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Consults with classroom teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors concerning the instructional needs of students who require academic support in the areas of literacy and/or math.
• Meets with students requiring academic improvement.
• Assists students in skill practice and reinforcement activities, previously introduced by the teacher(s).
• Complies with state laws, school board policies, and administrative regulations.
• Maintains a consistent, positive, and professional rapport with students.
• Works cooperatively with colleagues, support staff, and administration.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to:

Principal or Designee

Terms of Employment:

Part-time, at a rate of $26 per hour, 10 months a year. Assigned to school/s location/s as needed.

Evaluation:

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of licensed personnel.
