Title:   INSTRUCTIONAL ASSOCIATE - VIRTUAL LEARNING

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Supports the successful functioning of virtual learning programs by performing assigned duties related to the virtual learning process such as monitoring and facilitating student progress, monitoring and encouraging student attendance and engagement, proctoring online tests and assessments, and communicating with students, families, school counselors, support staff, and virtual teachers under the direction/supervision of the building administrator and the Coordinator of Online Learning.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or higher; or high school diploma or equivalent with additional 48 semester credit hours from accredited institutions; or High School Diploma or equivalent with addition of passing a rigorous test as approved by VDOE or YCSD for purposes of determining highly qualified status for teacher assistants.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher qualifies for Tier Two.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient computer skills, knowledge and/or experience related to online learning.
  • Organizational management of multiple duties and responsibilities.
  • Initiative and self-direction.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to serve all students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, virtual teachers, school counselors, instructional support staff, administrators, and families to support student success in virtual learning programs.
  • Ability to navigate a computer lab setting with sufficient mobility to monitor students and check progress of student coursework online.
  • Knowledge of the essential components of an online instructional program.
  • Ability to monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior both in the physical classroom and in online environments.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Monitors students under the direction/supervision of the building administrator or Coordinator of Online Learning.
  • Documents student progress in virtual coursework and communicates regularly with virtual teachers, school counselors, families, and the Coordinator of Online Learning regarding student academic progress.
  • Provides a safe and positive classroom environment by establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior.
  • Supports instructional accommodations and identifies resources and personnel to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Performs administrative work related to instructional activities and data such as taking attendance, monitoring students while completing online coursework, obtaining and maintaining passwords to proctor online tests, obtaining and reporting grades, and fulfilling other related responsibilities to support virtual learning.
  • Works collaboratively with students, virtual teachers, school counselors, instructional support staff, building and virtual program administrators, and parents to support student success in their virtual coursework.
  • Participates in staff development activities related to building procedures and online learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Coordinator of Online Learning
Terms of Employment:
Ten months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
