Title: MASTER MECHANIC - BOILERMAN

Primary Function:
Performs skilled boiler and plumbing work in the maintenance and repair of School Division buildings; work involves installation, maintenance, and repair of boiler and plumbing systems; performs skilled work on boiler and mechanical equipment and performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks requiring a knowledge of building trade skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school supplemented by vocational/technical training on boilers and possession of a Master Mechanical or Master Plumber license, and 3 to 5 years of journey level experience in boiler trades; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Necessary and Special Qualifications:
- Possesses valid Driver's License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia; registered by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Master Mechanical and Gas Fitting or Master Plumber.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and EPA standards and occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the common methods, tools, and equipment used in boiler and plumbing installation and repair work.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable boiler, mechanical, and plumbing codes.
- Skilled in performing highly skilled boiler work.
- Skilled in performing highly skilled plumbing work.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, sketches, and drawings.
- Ability to plan for and estimate time and materials needed for various projects.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Performs skilled boiler and skilled plumbing tasks including all boiler work, changing faucet washers, stems, seals, etc.; installing water and sanitary fixtures and equipment; repairs water line leaks and breaks; and repairs toilets by changing tank bulbs, overflow tubes, etc.
- Maintains and repairs sewer systems to include septic tanks and grinder pumps and their associated controls; installs gas lines and sprinkling systems (fire and lawn), injectors and injector pumps for sewer systems; maintains and repairs boilers, furnaces, and pumps.
- Estimates time and materials needed for completion of projects; installs and tests back-flow prevention systems.
- Operates camera equipped sewer auger to pinpoint exact location of clogs and breaks.
- May be required to operate back-hoes and trenching equipment to perform required job.
- Responds to after-hours calls; assists other trade workers.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Reports to:
Manager of Building Maintenance
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations for non-licensed personnel.
