Title: MASTER ELECTRICIAN - ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL

Primary Function:
Performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems in School Division buildings. Performs skilled electrical work involving the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Installs computer networks, phone systems, and HVAC control work. Installs, repairs, and tests fire, burglar and emergency alarm systems. Responsible for estimating time and materials needed for project completion, and for ordering materials and supplies. Coordinates electrical inspections.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school, supplemented by vocational training in electrical trade, and 3 to 5 years of journey level experience in residential, commercial, or industrial electrical work, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Registered by Commonwealth of Virginia as a Master Electrician.
- Must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the common methods, tools, and equipment used in electrical installation and repair work.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable electrical codes.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ADA, and EPA standards and occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Skill in performing highly skilled electrical work.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, sketches, and drawings.
- Ability to plan for and estimate time and materials needed for various projects.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Performs skilled electrical work involving the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment; estimates time and materials needed for project completion; obtains permits for new installations and major repairs; coordinates electrical inspections.
- Wires buildings and makes additions to existing wiring; installs and repairs fluorescent, industrial and general lighting fixtures and connections.
- Performs repairs on electrical motors, pumps, fans, etc; inspects and maintains electrical motor-control panels; repairs appliances such as commercial refrigerators, ranges, coffee pots, etc.; inspects electrical panels, ensuring connections and grounds are properly installed.
- Installs and repairs energy management system.
- Performs maintenance and repair of generators and automatic transfer switches and UPS systems.
- Responds to after hours calls.
- Supervises work of project team members as required.
- Performs other related work as assigned by Manager of Building Maintenance.

- Can climb a ladder and lift up to 60 pounds from the ground and 35 pounds above the head.
- Can stand for extended periods of time
- Can understand and follow written and verbal instruction
- Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate tool and/or other equipment
In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the School Division may suspend normal operations and/or cancel classes. If this occurs, all employees deemed essential must remain at or report to their work as soon as conditions reasonably permit. The designation of essential depends on an employee’s duties as well as the circumstances for suspension of normal operations.

Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations for non-licensed personnel.
