Job Description

Title:   MANAGER OF SCHOOL FOOD SERVICES

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Provides direction for the efficient operation of school food services in an atmosphere of cleanliness, comfort and customer service in which students are served nutritious meals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and possess a valid Virginia operators license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of inventory control and working knowledge of computers.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Willing to work flexible hours and must be able to work from written instructions.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity and oral and written communication skills required to perform all performance responsibilities.
  • Ability to work well with people and maintain a pleasant and positive attitude and to maintain and react to flexible work schedules.
  • Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records to prepare required written and electronic reports.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Ensures guidelines are followed for the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs.
  • Ensures menus are prepared in compliance with National School Lunch and Breakfast guidelines.
  • Plans in-service meetings for all food service employees.
  • Ensures that all reports and correspondences are accurate and turned in on time for reports to be sent to the State department; ensures that all records are kept for three years plus the current year.
  • Ensures all free and reduced applications are in compliance with guidelines, verifying that three per cent of all applications are received before Dec. 15 of each year.
  • Completes accountability reports for each school by February 1 of each year.
  • Sets up appointment with State department for review each school year.
  • Attends supervisor meetings with State department.
  • Distributes donated commodity food items; keeps up with inventory of commodity and purchased food items.
  • Protects the confidentiality of students as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Associate Director of School Operations
Terms of Employment:
200 days per year; 4.00 hours / day. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
