Elizabeth Beach's first grade class at Seaford Elementary School (SES) worked with community volunteer, Julie Jensen, to create a class quilt. The quilt represents a cross curriculum review. The students were presented with quilts that dated back 100 years. The students were able to tie in their social studies lesson on past, present and future. The students discussed how quilts were made in the past and how quilts can be handed down through generations. The class had just completed reading a story about family traditions in which making quilts was one of the traditions. Julie helped the students design quilt squares to represent themselves and their classroom and will piece the quilt together to present to the class.
