IB Middle Years Programme Students at Yorktown Middle Continue Wind Farm Investigation

Posted On: Friday, May 20, 2011
Sixth grade students in the Yorktown Middle School (YMS) IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) continued their investigation into offshore wind farms and exploration into how U.S. and foreign companies can partner to make ideas a reality. As part of Nancy Feigenbaum's Spanish class, students learned from Heather Rugnetta, Team Lead for the Northrop Grumman part of the project, and Ferman Catalan Apecechea, Chief Engineer for Gamesa, the Spanish corporation leading the investigation into offshore wind energy. Students learned that this project has an interdisciplinary nature, requiring engineers, biologists, lawyers, accountants, and linguists to work together toward the overall goal. This is the second activity in which students have investigated this technology through a partnership between Northrop Grumman and Yorktown Middle School (YMS) that began after viewing a recent article on the new wind farm technology in the Daily Press.
