Yorktown Goes to France

Posted On: Friday, October 01, 2010
A delegation of 13 York County citizens descended on the small Mediterranean village of Port-Vendres in southeastern France Sept. 14-19. The occasion marked the 20th anniversary of Yorktown and Port-Vendres' sister city relationship. The "twinning" is chartered by Sister Cities International.

The group was welcomed as family with each member staying in a local home. They were treated to a series of receptions by the mayors of Port-Vend res and its neighboring village, Collioure. The agenda also included visits to local vineyards and historic sites, and a visit to the middle school, where Christine Hudson, French teacher at Tabb High School, worked with French counterparts to establish e-mail exchanges between our students and those of Port-Vendres. A wreath-laying ceremony at the obelisk honoring American independence, a parade and a special church service underscored the official reaffirmation of the sister city proclamation. Also representing the York County School Division was school board member Linda Meadows.
