Two Schools Earn 2024 Exemplar Awards

The Virginia Board of Education announced the 2023-24 Exemplar Performance Awards recognizing schools for high achievement and continued improvement. The awards are based on performance and practice during the 2022-23 school year and prior school years.

Highest Achievement Award

For the second consecutive year, Seaford Elementary School met the criteria for the Highest Achievement Award. Only 37 schools in the state earned this recognition. To earn the award, a school must demonstrate high levels of success across all of school quality indicators, including success in narrowing achievement gaps.

Continuous Improvement Award

York River Academy received the Board of Education Continuous Improvement Award. To receive this recognition the school can be Accredited or Accredited with Conditions and must meet identified criteria.

The Exemplar Performance School Awards replaced the Virginia Index of Performance program in 2023 to recognize schools exceeding state accreditation standards and making continuous improvement in narrowing achievement gaps.
