NHREC BUILD Hampton Roads Career Selection Day

Posted On: Friday, May 12, 2023

More than 20 YCSD high school seniors were recognized as future ready graduates during the sixth annual New Horizons Regional Education Centers' (NHREC) BUILD Hampton Roads Career Selection Day ceremony this week. The event, modeled after the NCAA's National Signing Day for athletes committing to play sports in college, celebrates students entering the automotive, construction, advanced manufacturing and information/cybersecurity workforce directly after high school.

Through their specialized career and technical training at NHREC, these graduating seniors have the opportunity to gain full-time employment with Hampton Roads employers in high demand and high wage-earning entry-level positions earning on average between $18 to $28 per hour plus full employer benefits. This year, 110 students from the six school divisions in the greater peninsula area signed on with 23 regional employers!
