Governor Appoints Superintendent to Advisory Board

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has appointed York County School Division Superintendent Victor Shandor, Ed.D., to a state advisory board. Dr. Shandor will serve as the division superintendent on the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children. The Virginia Council was created by the 2009 General Assembly to assist in easing the transition of the children of military families into school as a result of frequent moves and deployment of their parents.

"I am honored to represent York County as a member of the Virginia Council," said Dr. Shandor. "As the son of a former military service member, I am deeply grateful the sacrifices our military families make for our country. I look forward to working with other members of the council in support of our military community."

As a school division comprising approximately 31% military-connected students, YCSD schools have earned recognition for their commitment to meeting military families’ needs, while also providing resources and programming related to transitions and academic planning. The division has also been selected to host the 2023 Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting, beginning March 27. DoDEA is charged with the responsibility and privilege of educating the children of our nation's military.
