Impact Aid

Each year, the York County School Division is eligible to receive millions of dollars in federal funding through the Impact Aid program. These federal funds help reduce local budget funding for school districts with enrolled, federally-connected students. Federally-connected students are children of active duty uniformed services personnel, children who live on federal property or in subsidized federal housing, and children whose parents are employed on eligible federal properties.

The application process requires school systems to verify certain student data for every enrolled student. To ensure YCSD receives the maximum funds available, it is vitally important each and every family participate in the upcoming Impact Aid survey. Please be on lookout for an email from YCSD on Tuesday, October 11, with instructions for completing the form on Rycor.

Family Forum: Shining a Light on Student Mental Wellness

The York County School Division, in partnership with the York County PTA, is hosting a community forum for families and students from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, at Grafton Middle School.

We understand students, families and community may face complex issues and challenges, some of which may be further impacted since the onset of the pandemic. Our mental wellness is an incredibly important part of our overall health, and critical in our ability to support our families, work effectively, participate in school, and contribute to society in meaningful ways.

This family engagement is designed to promote conversation and increase awareness regarding mental wellness challenges impacting youth. Attendees will have opportunities to speak with YCSD staff and learn about mental health resources and services available to students in the division and our community.

Other local organizations expected to be present include York-Poquoson Social Services, Colonial Behavioral Health, Bon Secours Family Focus, and military school liaisons.

DoDEA Grant Award

YCSD was recently awarded the 2022 Department of Defense Education Activity World Language Advancement and Readiness Program Grant. This grant will support implementing technology enhanced language learning (TELL) within Spanish and French world language classrooms, with an emphasis on outcomes for military-connected students. Virtual reality instruction provides greater possibilities for immersion within the targeted language as well as target language proficiency and fluency. Grant funds will also be used to provide opportunities for middle and high school students to engage in summer and afterschool world language enrichment activities.

York Foundation for Public Education, Inc.

The York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. (YFPE) supports public education in York County by developing resources to encourage educational innovation, promote and recognize excellence, and address the needs of YCSD students, faculty and staff.

Each year, the YFPE holds several fundraisers to help support it's mission. Every dollar raised is returned directly to YCSD schools through whole school grants, innovative classroom grants, as well as staff and student scholarships. To learn more about how you can support the YFPE, visit the foundation website.

Community Announcements

The York County School Division offers local businesses and organizations the opportunity to share information with students and parents regarding educational/enrichment activities, events and opportunities, which are either available to YCSD students or support division programs. These flyers are neither sponsored nor endorsed by the York County School Division or the schools, but are made available as a community service for our families.

Community announcements can also be found on the division website and each school's website.
