Tabb Middle Students Receive Technology Awards

Tabb Middle School (TMS) garnered 12 trophies at the Technology Student Association (TSA) Tidewater regional competition that was held at Grassfield High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. Nineteen students competed in ten different team and individual events. The mission of the Technology Student Association is to foster personal growth, leadership and opportunities in technology, innovation, design and engineering. TSA is made up of 150,000 middle and high school students and 2,500 teachers and advisors in 48 state delegations.
 
First place: Nick Anselmo, Electrical Applications; Sam Rice, Communication Challenge; Josh Findlay, Graphic Design; Sam Rice, Multimedia Production and Ashley Barclift, Dragster Design.
 
Second place: Logan Wright, Electrical Applications; Kevin Brown, Technical Design; Bryan Moon, Transportation Challenge; Alexis Barclift, Dragster Design; Bryan Moon, Flight Challenge; and the team of Lauren Wright, Molly Spruill, Ashley Barclift, Systems Control.
 
Third place: Team members, Julia Smith, Todd Barns and Nathan Velazquez, Marine Design.
 
Others participants: Amanda Carroll, Jarrett Pierson, Trace Goulter and Matthew Montgomery.
 
TMS has participated in TSA and its competitive programs for the past 13 years. In the last five years, TMS has had 82 students win both regional and state trophies. Unique this year was the outcome of the traditionally male dragster design event. This event requires the design, technical drawing and building of a balsa wood car with power tools. The top two spots were won by twin sisters Ashley and Alexis Barclift of TMS.
