Free Meal Applications

As a reminder, YCSD schools are no longer able to provide free meals to students through USDA pandemic relief funds. Families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced-price meals as soon as possible, using the online application or a printable form. Even if a family did not previously qualify, they are encouraged to apply as some eligibility requirements have changed.

In addition to meal benefits, eligible students can receive waivers or discounts on the following:

• School & Athletic fees
• Internet Access
• SAT, ACT and AP testing charges
• College Application fees

Online Tutoring

The York County School Division is again offering a program to provide students with extra academic help this school year. YCSD has contracted with FEV Tutor, a nationally-recognized company, to provide free online tutoring services for students in grades 3-12.

Students and families will have access to support at any time, from any device with an internet connection. Support sessions are live, but do not involve device cameras, as they are conducted through chat and a whiteboard. You can learn more about the FEV Tutor on the division website.

2022 NOAA Grant

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded the York County School Division (YCSD) $225,000 through its highly competitive grant application process.

The grant program entitled, Fostering Bay Stewardship by Building Capacity to Lead Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs), supports the division’s mission of ensuring every student is valued, supported, and challenged through learning experiences, which prepare them for a successful future.

Over the next three years, YCSD will partner with the James River Association (JRA) to deliver rigorous professional learning for 4th and 5th grade teachers through a combination of classroom and field experiences so they may systematically integrate MWEEs into the curricula. Teachers will design and implement performance assessments that require students to demonstrate proficiency of scientific skills through their engagement in MWEE activities.

VDOE Public Comment Period

The Virginia Board of Education is seeking comments from the general public on the proposed revised 2022 History and Social Science Standards of Learning. The Standards of Quality require the Board of Education to review the Standards of Learning on a regular seven-year schedule. An important part of the revision and review process is the solicitation of comments from teachers, administrators, parents, and stakeholders.

The public comment period will be open until September 25, 2022. The Proposed Revised 2022 History and Social Science Standards of Learning can be accessed on the Virginia Department of Education website.

The York County School Division offers local businesses and organizations the opportunity to share information with students and parents regarding educational/enrichment activities, events and opportunities, which are either available to YCSD students or support division programs. These flyers are neither sponsored nor endorsed by the York County School Division or the schools, but are made available as a community service for our families.
