Sodexo Future Chefs Culinary Competition

Posted On: Friday, May 06, 2022

Students from each elementary school in the division took over the kitchen at York High School for the Sodexo Future Chefs Culinary Competition. The national initiative was launched to get students thinking about making healthy food choices while also encouraging them to get active and creative in the kitchen.

The cooking challenge began with hundreds of YCSD elementary students submitting healthy comfort food recipes from a book or movie. Ten students were then selected to participate in the division’s final event.

With the help of cafeteria managers, the students prepared their recipes for a panel of judges that included School Board members, Division Superintendent Victor Shandor and members of the division's leadership team.

The judges selected Florentine Meatballs, created by Mt. Vernon Elementary School third grader Julia Getzewich, as the winning dish.
