CES Teacher Receives National Award

Taylor Goodson, a third grade teacher at Coventry Elementary, is now a member of an elite group of educators nationwide. Wednesday afternoon, she was named a Milken Educator during what she, her fellow teachers, and students thought was just a Teacher Appreciation Week assembly.

During the assembly, students helped share the surprise, which includes a $25,000 cash award. Additionally, as a Milken Educator, Taylor will join a network of nearly 3,000 teachers, principals and specialists from around the country who she will be able to meet during an all-expenses paid event in Los Angeles this summer.

The Milken Educator Awards is considered the "Oscars of Teaching" and is intended to recognize excellence in education and inspire a passion to join the teaching profession. According to the Milken Family Foundation, the criteria for selecting an awardee include:

• Exceptional educational talent as evidenced by effective and innovative instructional practices and student learning results in the classroom and school;
• Exemplary educational accomplishments and leadership beyond the classroom that provide models of excellence for the profession; and
• Engaging and inspiring presence that motivates and impacts students, colleagues and the community.

"Taylor Goodson is truly deserving of this recognition from the Milken Family Foundation," shared Dr. Shandor, division superintendent. "She exemplifies the standards of excellence for which our schools and staff are well known. The joy and passion she brings to teaching are evident to her colleagues, students and families."
