Posted On: Friday, June 19, 2009

The fifth graders at Mt. Vernon Elementary School held the first York County Kids' Walk for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The walk was held at MVES after school on May 29. Fifth grader Danielle Manicone presented the idea of a Kids' Walk to her principal, Barbara Wood. With the help of students, parents and faculty, MVES organized and held the Kids' Walk in honor of two of Danielle's classmates, Hannah Speight and Isma-il Lewis, who live with juvenile diabetes. The students raised over $2,500 for JDRF.
