2021-22 YCSD Calendar Adjustments

Posted On: Wednesday, October 27, 2021

This week, the School Board voted to authorize the superintendent to adjust the 2021-22 school calendar to incorporate additional planning time for teachers prior to winter break. The division will convert Thursday, November 11 (Veterans Day) from an early release day to a full staff workday/student holiday and will make Monday, December 6 an early release day for all students.

Teacher planning time is required by law. Over the first two months of school, many teachers have spent their scheduled planning time teaching additional classes and/or assuming extra duties due to ongoing staffing and substitute shortages. Additionally, the ongoing bus driver shortage has increased student supervision needs before and after school when teachers might also be preparing lesson plans and grading student assignments. YCSD believes providing teachers with time to collaborate, plan, and review student data supports high quality, engaging instruction.

As we recognize that adjustments to the school calendar affect our families as well, our intent has been to identify dates that will minimize disruptions for our families and allow ample time for families to prepare for these schedule changes. If the additional time provided in November and December proves valuable to our teachers, students and families, division staff will evaluate options for other calendar adjustments later in the school year.

The division has also adjusted dates for issuing Quarter 1 report cards. Teachers will have through November 5, 2021 to enter grades. Reports cards will then be issued on November 10, 2021.

Revised 2021-22 Calendar

  • November 10 - Report Cards Issued
  • November 11 - Teacher Workday/Student Holiday
  • December 6 - Early Release Day

Students who participate in specialty programs such as NHREC, Governor's School, SOA, EXTEND and preschool will follow the regular early dismissal schedule on December 6.
