2020-21 School Year Reminders

As the division prepares for the Expanded Hybrid Model to begin on March 29, we ask our staff and families to help support these efforts by continuing to conduct Daily Health Screenings before coming to work, school, or practice. Additionally, as families are still encouraged to drive and carpool to school to help support distancing on buses, please be prepared for higher traffic volume near schools during arrival and dismissal times.

Early release dates originally approved in the school calendar will be in place for the remainder of the school year (April 2, May 7, June 16 & 17). Please also note that during four-day school weeks (May 31 and June 14), the division will not schedule Student Support and Independent Learning Days.

While graduation is tentatively scheduled for June 18, the state has just released guidance regarding outdoor ceremonies. As a committee of administrators, teachers, parents and students reviews these guidelines and analyzes options, that date may be subject to change. We anticipate providing information that is more specific shortly after Spring Break.

Food Services Update

The USDA has approved free meal distribution to continue not only through the school year, but through summer months as well. However, there will be no meal distribution during Spring Break. To support families while schools and offices are closed, the meal distribution on Wednesday, March 31 will include meals for 14 days (April 1-April 14).

Meal distribution will resume on Wednesday, April 14, with some slight changes. Students attending school virtually will still receive meal bags containing breakfast, lunch and milk for all 7 days of the week, while students enrolled in the Flexible Framework will receive meal bags containing breakfast, lunch and milk for the days they are not in school (Sat., Sun., Weds.).

Additional details will be provided to participating families during meal distribution on Wednesday, March 31. If you have questions, please email Meals@ycsd.york.va.us or call 898-0468.

2021-22 School Calendar Approved

After reviewing parent, student and staff feedback regarding two calendar options, the school board approved the 2021-22 calendar to begin next school year prior to Labor Day. Students will return to class Monday, August 30, 2021. Under the new state law, the Friday before Labor Day must be a student holiday, creating a 4-day weekend. Next year’s calendar is available on the division website.

The division is currently planning for instruction to follow the traditional five-day in-person schedule in 2021-22, pending any state and federal guidance.
