three students and a teacher standing in front of a mapEach year more than 125,000 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest nationwide. This year, three Tabb Middle students won all three awards at our local level. Congratulations to first place winner, Jacob Grieme; second place winner, Jatin Tiwari; and third place winner, Sinaya Hairston. The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting an essay expressing their views based on a patriotic theme. Each entry was carefully evaluated by a team of VFW Post 824 members and was considered for criteria such as theme knowledge, theme development, and clarity of ideas.
