Yorktown Middle School Student Wins County Essay Contest

Yorktown Middle School Student Wins County Essay ContestYorktown Middle School (YMS) seventh grader, Akira Durham, is the winner of York County’s “If I were County Administrator” essay contest sponsored by the York County Public Library this month.

The contest, open to all York County middle school students, asked the question: "What would you do as County Administrator to keep York County a great place to live?” The submissions were then read and judged by York County Administrator Neil Morgan who selected Akira as the winner and recipient of a $50 Amazon gift card.

In his essay, Akira wrote, “I would want to make our county as safe as it could possibly be, as clean as it could be and make York County very well educated to create an ideal environment for friendship, teamwork and communication, which will lead to a successful county that runs well.”
