SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program for students to learn about robotics, engineering, science, and mathematics (STEM) with a marine engineering theme. Under the supervision of coaches, Theresa Guthrie and Bernie Goltermann, Tabb Middle School students met after school for eight weeks to build and redesign a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) that can maneuver underwater to move objects and move through obstacles. Throughout the project, students improved their communication and leadership skills as they collaborated on specific tasks which required engineering design thinking, systems engineering, and logistics management. Students are also exposed to all the exciting careers that are possible in naval architecture and naval, ocean, and marine engineering.
