Spring seems to have been delayed this year, but Bruton High School's parking lot will soon be much greener thanks to the commitment of a few students. Last spring, students in Darleen Hart’s AP English Language and Composition class researched ways to change an environment and then created a plan in which to implement that change. Tyler Sakimura, Abbie Menge and Jaela Watkins collaborated on a design that would improve the aesthetics at Bruton High School (BHS). They found that clean schools and campuses improve the academic achievement of students. This week, that project came to life with the planting of four trees, one for each grade level at the school, in the student parking lot. Each grade will be responsible for caring for their designated tree. Many thanks to the community partners who helped make these students’ idea a reality: Historic Virginia Land Conservancy, Hertzler and George, and Bennett's Creek Nursery.
