Mt. Vernon Elementary School Power of Persuasion Writing

Fifth graders at Mt. Vernon Elementary School (MVES) recently participated in the school’s first Power of Persuasion Writing Fair. As part of the division’s new literacy model, fifth grade students craft a persuasive essay during the second quarter of the school year. To celebrate the conclusion of their writing this quarter, the students created a fair where they could share their writing sample, give a speech, or share a Sway presentation to fellow students, parents and community members. Some of their powerful arguments supported the need for middle school tennis teams, the need to always wear bike helmets, and various health-related topics.
