September Student Service Awards

Posted On: Friday, September 30, 2016

The School Board honored students from Seaford Elementary School (SES) and Grafton High School (GHS) as the Student Service Award recipients during the September Board meeting.

Wes Pak, a fifth grade student at SES, is active in Seaford’s Jr. Monarch and More Club and maintained honor roll status last year. What makes his accomplishments even more impressive is that Wes has been battling neuroblastoma, a form of pediatric cancer, for five years. Through this time, his spirit, positivity and smile have not changed. Shortly after his initial diagnosis, Wes started a toy drive for the oncology patients at CHKD called Wes' Wish: Piles of Smiles for a Child with Cancer Toy Drive. Each year it grows larger and now provides Christmas for the patients, siblings, and parents. Many York County schools join in and help "Stuff the Bus for Wes.”

Jalen Banks, a senior at GHS, was recognized for contributing countless hours of service to many school and community related organizations. Jalen volunteers at the Yorktown Victory Center, serves as a student aide, and tutors students needing assistance. Jalen’s award and honors include ACT-SO Award recipient in 10th and 11th grades, and highest academic honors each year at Grafton.
