GBES Teacher Earns National Award

Carol Bauer, a fourth grade teacher at Grafton Bethel Elementary School (GBES), is the recipient of the National Education Association (NEA) Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence. This highly respected national award is given to a select few teachers each year. A recent Teacher of the Year for GBES, she was nominated by the Virginia Education Association to receive the award. Bauer will travel to Washington, D.C. in February to receive the award and a $10,000 prize at the NEA Foundation Gala.

“We are proud to have Carol represent the school division. She is an excellent advocate for both teachers and students,” stated Dr. Stephanie Guy, chief academic officer.
