TMS Student Wins National Competition

Posted On: Friday, May 06, 2016

Tabb Middle School (TMS) seventh grader, Abby Vedock-Gross, was the first place winner in the 2016 Young Reporters for the Environment USA (YRE) competition for the video category in the 13-15 age category. Abby is enrolled in the Extend program at TMS and completed this project as part of a human geography unit. Each student was challenged to research one of three topics: deforestation, water scarcity, or community health and to suggest sustainable change solutions in their chosen topic.

YRE Young Reporters for the Environment is an international program that engages youth in environmental journalism in more than 25 countries around the world. First place winners in the national competition also proceeded to the international competition. We look forward to hearing the results of the international competition during the first week of June.

Abby's video, The Deforestation Problem, can be viewed here.
