YES Second Graders Raise Funds for Military Families

Posted On: Friday, December 18, 2015

Military life offers many challenges for service members and their families. Students at Yorktown Elementary School (YES) believe that one challenge they should not have to face is providing their families with a happy holiday. For the third year, YES second graders hosted a Market Days activity to support the Fort Eustis Army Community Service (ACS) Holiday Drive. Students planned and created items to sell for Market Days. Items ranged in price from .05 to $2.00 to ensure that there was something that was affordable for everyone. Students and families from all grade levels were invited to shop.

Students raised $664 to purchase toys for families on Ft. Eustis. On Thursday, December 17, the director of ACS and several soldiers stationed at Ft. Eustis visited the school to accept the gifts purchased from the proceeds of market days.
