Yorktown Middle School Students Raise Money for Stop Hunger Now

Posted On: Friday, April 17, 2015

All the students at Yorktown Middle School (YMS) read for pledges and donations during Read Across America and raised just over $3,692 for Stop Hunger Now, an organization that provides meals to undernourished people around the globe. As a reward for their generosity, Stop Hunger Now will bring their mobile packing operation to YMS in June.

Selected eighth grade students as well as the top readers in grades 6 and 7 will have a hands-on opportunity to work in teams to package 10,000 meals in 2-3 hours. Students will set up and take down packaging stations and equipment, fill bins with raw ingredients, scoop ingredients into meal bags, weigh and seal the bags, box and stack them on pallets, and load the pallets and equipment onto a truck.
