Wind Chill Advisory – YCSD StatusPosted On: Wednesday, January 07, 2015 |
The York County School Division is monitoring the National Weather Service’s predictions of extremely cold conditions with a wind chill advisory for Thursday, January 8, 2015. As of 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2015, the division has made no decision to change school schedules for Thursday. Based on this forecast, staff are checking, and will continue to monitor, each school’s heating systems to ensure they are functioning properly. Transportation staff will be taking extra steps to prepare school buses for the cold temperatures. Student safety is the primary consideration when determining whether to delay or cancel school, and that includes students waiting for school buses or walking to and from school. Parents are also encouraged to ensure children are dressed appropriately for cold weather throughout the winter months. It is important for children to have coats, gloves and hats while walking or riding the bus to and from school. Schools monitor weather forecasts daily to determine whether outdoor activities such as recess can be held. In the event of wind chill advisories or temperatures below 32 degrees, outdoor activities will be cancelled or held indoors. As a reminder, information regarding school delays and cancellations is posted on the division’s website, YCSD-TV, Facebook and Twitter accounts as soon as decisions are made. In addition, any delay or cancellation information is shared via Connect 5 and with local television and radio station. |
