Congressional Candidates Visit YHS

Posted On: Friday, November 07, 2014

On Tuesday, October 21, a group of York High School (YHS) students met with Representative Rob Wittman, who represents Virginia's First US Congressional District. The group of students included those enrolled in AP Government, Virginia & US Government, and AP Human Geography. Joel Torres, a senior from Mr. Conrad's 4B AP Government class, initially contacted Mr. Wittman's office to request the visit. Rep. Wittman spoke briefly about his personal background and legislative priorities, followed by an hour-long question-and-answer session. The event concluded with a ‘#YHS Selfie" featuring Rep. Wittman and all the students and faculty present.

A week later on October 28, YHS government students enjoyed a similar event with Norm Mosher, the Democratic candidate for Virginia's First Congressional District. Mr. Mosher spoke for a few minutes about his platform and campaign prior to a question-and-answer forum with the students present at the event. Participants included students from Mr. Conrad's, Mrs. Adams', and Mr. Eure's classes.
