GMS Field Hockey Ovarian Cancer Awareness Game

Posted On: Friday, October 10, 2014

The Grafton Middle School (GMS) field hockey parents hosted an Ovarian Cancer Awareness event in coordination with the GMS-YMS field hockey game. The team wore teal team t-shirts and teal shoelaces, and there was a raffle to help raise funds. They raised $357 to donate to a local ovarian cancer organization, the Karen O'Hare Ovarian Cancer Memorial Run.

The money will help to fund Ovarian Cancer screening and testing programs for under-insured and un-insured women, of all ages, who reside in the greater Williamsburg community. This Memorial Run Fund underwrites programs which are offered by the Lackey Free Family Clinic and the Olde Towne Medical Center. The programs have diagnosed seven women in early stage Ovarian Cancer. These women were all treated successfully for the disease because of an early stage diagnosis.
