YMS SeaPerch Team Competes in Tidewater Regional SeaPerch Competition

Posted On: Friday, March 21, 2014

A team of four Yorktown Middle School (YMS) eighth graders earned a Third Place trophy in the Obstacle Course Challenge phase of the Tidewater Regional SeaPerch Competition held on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Midtown Community Center in Newport News. Sponsored by Mr. Vince Hundley, Technology Education teacher, this was the first YMS team to participate in the competition.

SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program that equips teachers and students with the resources they need to build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). Students build the ROV from a kit comprised of low-cost, easily accessible parts, following a curriculum that teaches basic engineering and science concepts with a marine engineering theme. The SeaPerch Program provides students with the opportunity to learn about robotics, engineering, science, and mathematics while building an underwater ROV as part of a science and engineering technology curriculum.
