YCSD Students Excel at Regional Science Fair

On Saturday, March 15, more than eighty York County School Division (YCSD) students competed in the 63rd Annual Tidewater Science and Engineering Fair at Old Dominion University. Students presented their scientific research to industry professionals from across the region.

The First Place Overall Grand Prize was awarded to Katherine Webb of Tabb High School (THS) for her mathematics project, titled “A New Statistical Measure of Effect Size: Rate Adjusted Standard Mean Difference.” Katherine will receive an all-expense paid trip to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, California, May 11-16, 2014. Additionally, Noora Abdel-Fattah, also of THS, was awarded the First Award of Excellence for her behavioral science project.

All First Place Junior Division students are eligible to apply and compete in the Broadcom Masters competition for middle school students and First Place Senior Division students are eligible to register and compete in the upcoming Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair at VMI. Congratulations to students and teachers for all their hard work!
