Middle School Students Off to Mars!

Posted On: Friday, January 17, 2014
Sixth grade science teachers, Tabbi Brownschidle (Yorktown Middle School) and Chelsei Fox (Grafton Middle School), were awarded a $5,000 Student Achievement Grant from the NEA Foundation for their Mars Colony Project. Students from both schools will collaborate as they design 22 modules, that when combined, would emulate the proposed Mars One settlement, which plans to take private citizens on a one-way trip to Mars in 2023. In this project, student teams will address food and air supply, energy production, water and sewage, resource acquisition, and recycling. This project requires students to not only master the science content, but also develops their skills in research, critical thinking, problem solving, and communication.
