A Raku Experience

Posted On: Thursday, January 07, 2010

Students in Leann Sasamoto's pottery classes at Tabb High School were able to experience first hand the art of Raku Pottery. Raku pottery style has its origins in Japan and is hand-molded creating all "one-of-a-kind" pieces. To create the unique effects associated with Raku pottery a specific ceramic firing process is required that incorporates both fire and smoke. Students created and cleaned up the finished pieces to be placed on display in the schools art department showcase.
