YCSD Students Create Digital Educational Tools

Posted On: Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Dozens of students recently took part in a new weeklong summer camp this July. The camp, a partnership between the York County School Division (YCSD) and Discovery Education, was designed to give students hand-on experience with a new digital tool called Board Builder.

Board Builder allows students to create and share interactive videos and photos with more than one million Discovery Education subscribers. YCSD students in grades 5-12 spent the week developing videos based upon a field trip to the Jamestown Settlement at the start of camp.

The camp is part of a three-year contract with Discovery to help develop and test a beta version of Board Builder. York County teachers and students were the first in the country to use the tool, which went live to all subscribers in May. The partnership is paid for with a $2.5 million grant from the Department of Defense Education Agency. The camp was also funded by Discovery Education.
