YMS Students Perform Above National Averages on the National French Language Exam!

Camille Perry and Sarah Benothmane, eighth grade students of Minouche Kaufman-Perry at Yorktown Middle School, have ranked nationally in the 78th annual National French Contest, Le Grand Concours. Students were evaluated for their written, oral and listening comprehension skills in French 2. Nearly 100,000 students in all 50 states competed in the 2013 event.

Camille Perry ranked 6th in Virginia and 7th nationally, while Sarah Benothmane ranked 8th in Virginia and 9th nationally for French Level 2. Additional student honors include:

Certificat d'Honneur and Médaille d'Honneur
French 1 (seventh grade):
Olivia Evans, 5th in Virginia, 11th nationally

Certificat de Réussite
French 1 (seventh grade):
Maaya Prasad, 11th in Virginia, 17th nationally
Aubrey Rundquist, 16th in Virginia, 22nd nationally

French 2 (eighth grade):
Alyssa Costello, 12th in Virginia, 13th nationally
Tyler Smith, 16th in Virginia, 17th nationally
Ciara Gillis, 19th in Virginia, 20th nationally
