Posted On: Friday, June 07, 2013

Congratulations to three World Language students from Yorktown Middle School (YMS) who attained national recognition for their excellent performance on the 2013 National Spanish Examinations (NSE). Alexis Haskiell, Rachel Shaffer and Mia Wyche, all seventh grade students of Minouche Kaufman-Perry, received Honorable Mention status.

This is the first year that YMS World Language students participated in the online, standardized assessment for students in grades 6-12. The mission of the NSE is to recognize student achievement and to promote language proficiency in the study of Spanish. There are three categories of exam competition, depending upon the student's exposure to the language. All students are evaluated in the areas of Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading and Listening Comprehension. Students scoring at, or above, the 50th through 74th percentiles earn Honorable Mention. Nationwide, more than 156,000 students participated this year.
