Future Business Leaders of AmericaPosted on: Thursday, March 11, 2010The Grafton High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) participated in the Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Regional competitions and placed in 18 different events. First and second place winners are eligible for State Competition in Reston, VA on April 16-18th. Additionally, Rand Irons was elected TNCC Regional President. This qualifies him to be the State Vice-President at large representing the TNCC Region. |
Great Computer ChallengePosted on: Thursday, March 11, 2010Students at York River Academy (YRA) competed with 120 teams across Hampton Roads and won three awards at the 25th anniversary of the Great Computer Challenge sponsored by WHRO, Old Dominion University (ODU) and The Consortium for Interactive Instruction. On the campus of ODU, teams competed in categories such as graphic arts, desktop publishing, computer programming, digital music composition and many more. Four teachers at YRA sponsored five teams with a total of sixteen students attending the event. YRA students placed third in desktop presentations and first in Web design. The Academy also won the Grace Little Technology Enthusiasm Award which is given to the school with the greatest percentage of its students participating in the event. |

This award recognizes outstanding facilitators who effectively support teachers' integration of technology into the classroom. Students Will Be Wowed by International, Multi-cultural Art Exhibit!Posted on: Thursday, March 11, 2010The York High PTSA is proud to bring the Teacher's Discovery Traveling Exhibit, Art Beyond Borders, to York High School. The York High Chapter is the recipient of the National PTSA Reflections Grant. This exhibit is a partnership between Teacher's Discovery and the International Museum of Twenty-first Century Arts (TIMOTCA). It was born from a series of international exhibits that premiered at the United Nations Headquarters. The goal of TIMOTCA is to collect one piece of art from an artist in every country in the world to serve as a catalyst for peace and cultural understanding through the universal language of art. To date, 63 countries are participating. This exhibit will feature 24 of those works of art in a vibrant, educational, eye-opening exhibit. |
