"Not At Our School" Poster Contest WinnersPosted on: Thursday, February 03, 2011Eighty Grafton Middle School (GMS) students entered a poster contest in recognition of Bullying Prevention Month. The contest was one of many GMS events conducted throughout the month of January promoting the year-round, school-wide anti-bullying effort. The posters proclaimed the school's new theme, "Not At Our School," created by GMS students. The winners of each grade level were Alexa Ouellette (sixth), Brandon Berube (seventh), and Victoria Joo (eighth). |
Tabb Cadets Honor Guard for USS Constitution at Governor McDonnell's AddressPosted on: Thursday, February 03, 2011On Tuesday afternoon, January 25th, in the middle of semester exams six Tabb High School (YHS) NJROTC cadets took a break from their studies to be the Honor Guard along with the crew of the USS Constitution for Virginia Governor McDonnell in his address to members of the House of Delegates, Naval and Coast Guard Admirals and distinguished guests, about the importance of OpSail 2012. Since the very first OpSail in 1964, the parade of sail has displayed the majesty and beauty of international tall ships such as Russia's Krusenstern. For 2012, in celebration of the "Star-Spangled Banner," the parade will be called The Star-Spangled Sail. This will be the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the writing of our National Anthem. |

Tabb is Sharing the WarmthPosted on: Thursday, February 03, 2011The Tabb High School (THS) Key Club collected gently used and new coats during the month of January to be donated to those in need throughout the community. The school-wide drive netted the group over 100 coats and jackets guaranteed to brighten and warm another during this winter season of uncommonly cold weather. Members of the THS Key Club counted, sorted and boxed up the collected coats before taking them to the collection site. |

The THS Bowling Club members successfully brought home to Hampton Roads the Clyde Robert Perkins II Memorial State High School Bowling Overall District trophy from the Virginia High School State Bowling Championships held on January 9th in Richmond. Two of THS’s teams placed in the top ten statewide. |
Future City Winners!Posted on: Friday, January 28, 2011Yorktown Middle School (YMS) students, Ross Millner, Hoon Ho Shin and Dorian Nguyen, competed as a team in the annual National Engineers Week Future City Hampton Roads Regional Competition held January 22nd at the Virginia Air and Space Museum in Hampton. The team placed second overall in the “Best Future City” category and also received a special award for “Best Agricultural Resources.” This was the first time a YMS team has competed in the Future City event which included 18 teams this year. Vincent Hundley, YMS technical education teacher, noted “This really is an amazing accomplishment for these three young men who have worked so hard to prepare their city for competition, especially when you consider the many challenges they faced throughout the process.” |

YES Students Visit Coast Guard StationPosted on: Friday, January 21, 2011Lydia Lassalle's 2nd grade class at Yorktown Elementary School (YES) attended a ceremony to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the Living Classroom at the Yorktown Coast Guard Training Center. The students participated in a scavenger hunt with members of the Coast Guard to learn about trees that were transplanted from various historical sites around the country. After the scavenger hunt, students enjoyed lunch in the mess hall with the members of the Coast Guard and toured the lighthouse museum. |
