Heather V. Ulsh, Middle School Technology Educator of the Year 2012Posted on: Thursday, March 29, 2012Heather Ulsh has learned how to take advantage of the "latest and greatest" tools to keep her eighth grade math students engaged. Using GPS systems, she created a scavenger hunt on the football field to help students review for the SOL test. Students used Animoto, Glogster, MovieMaker, Toondoo, Blogs and wikispaces to learn the essential vocabulary of math. And, if students are always on Facebook, why not take advantage of that as well. Ms. Ulsh created two Facebook groups to help students better understand algebra and Geometry. These have also been shared with the other math teachers in the school. For her creative and fun uses of technology to increase interest and knowledge in math, Heather Ulsh is this year's Middle School Technology Educator of the Year. |
