Coventry Elementary Environmental ClubPosted on: Friday, June 01, 2012The Coventry Environmental Club participated in the 20th annual Earth Day Celebration in Williamsburg on April 20th. Coventry Elementary School (CES) students created fashions from recyclable materials, and put on their 8th annual "Recycle Fashion Show." Students were marvelously creative in constructing their outfits, and as always, they were the highlight of the program! Club sponsors, Barbara Dunbar (Va. Master Naturalist) and Deardra Hanline (CES teacher) received an award for excellence in teaching environmental programs at CES. They also received a $100 award to support their long term project of establishing a "Monarch Waystation" in the CES courtyard. |
TowneBank Partners with the York Foundation for Public Education, Inc.Posted on: Friday, June 01, 2012In December of 2011, the York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. reached out to TowneBank to sponsor a new scoreboard for Bailey Field. Bailey Field, located on the campus of York High School, hosts athletic events for three York County School Division high schools. TowneBank has committed to fully funding this project. "At TowneBank we are committed to supporting our hometown, and I felt that it was important to support a new, modern scoreboard for Bailey Field. Bailey Field is important to the citizens, parents and students of the school division, and at TowneBank we want to compliment the quality of the school division and its students. We hope the community will enjoy the energy efficient and updated scoreboard for years to come," said Brian Skinner, Regional President. |

When Life Gives You LemonsPosted on: Thursday, May 17, 2012Grafton Bethel Elementary School (GBES) second graders in Karolyn Blackburn's class read a story about selling lemonade. In the story a group of kids wanted to fix their clubhouse but needed money which they decided to earn by selling lemonade. The story showed the process of how the kids made it, sold it and graphed how much they had sold. They earned enough to fix the clubhouse; making lemonade out of lemons. As a follow up activity, Erin Dixon, para-educator, brought the fixings for lemonade and assisted the students in making their own lemonade. |
