Le Grand Concours Participants from Yorktown MiddlePosted on: Friday, June 15, 2012This past March, all Yorktown Middle School (YMS) 7th and 8th graders enrolled in French participated in Le Grand Concours- the National French contest, for the first time at Yorktown Middle School (YMS). This exam is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF). Students in every state in the country, as well as many abroad, participate in the contest. |

Students volunteered at a variety of locations and completed activities to give back to their community. Prior to Tuesday, students participated in a t-shirt design and essay writing contest about community service. Ji Sung Kim created the winning t-shirt design and the essay contest winners include third place Grace Bowie, second place Alex Zhou, and first place Laine Elliott. |
Magruder Kindergarteners Visit the White HousePosted on: Friday, June 15, 2012Sandra Murawski's Magruder Elementary School kindergarten students and their families visited and toured the White House in June. Sandra made White House tour arrangements for interested families. Families were given the date and time of the tour and met in Washington D.C. for the big event. The students and families were able to see many of the rooms within the White House. This was a wonderful opportunity for the students to gain a greater understanding of Washington D.C. and the White House. |
