YCSD Early Release - January 3, 2022

The York County School Division will follow the division's Early Release Day schedule today, Monday, January 3, 2022 as the forecasts continue to indicate a change to snowfall and possibly hazardous conditions later today. All after-school activities, including Right at School childcare, are also canceled.

On Monday, January 3, we will be returning to our classrooms as scheduled as we remain committed to our belief that students belong in school, in-person. As case levels rise across the country and Virginia due to the Omicron variant, maintaining safe learning environments for our staff and students will take a community effort.


YCSD Safety Message

The York County School Division and the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office (YPSO) are aware of information circulating on the social media platform Tik Tok. These posts refer to a threat to school safety "for every school in the USA" on Friday, December 17. We do not have any threats specific to YCSD schools, but are monitoring this national situation closely.

Grafton Complex Threat Investigation

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has notified the York County School Division regarding an overnight investigation involving a potential threat to the Grafton School Complex. A concerned parent contacted law enforcement to report threatening comments within text messages exchanged between three GHS students.


YCSD Schools Earn Virginia Purple Star Designation

Magruder Elementary School has joined the list of schools within the division recognized for their commitment to serving military children and their families. These schools receive a three-year designation as a Virginia Department of Education Purple Star School. Coventry Elementary School, Grafton Bethel Elementary School and Tabb Middle School were also honored for the second time, bringing the total number of YCSD schools earning this designation to 11.

2021-22 YCSD Calendar Adjustments

This week, the School Board voted to authorize the superintendent to adjust the 2021-22 school calendar to incorporate additional planning time for teachers prior to winter break. The division will convert Thursday, November 11 (Veterans Day) from an early release day to a full staff workday/student holiday and will make Monday, December 6 an early release day for all students.
