Students are looking forward to new teachers, new subjects and a new grade level for York River Academy in the 2008-2009 school year. YRA will be adding 12th grade to become a full high school with graduating seniors next summer.

Mr. Cross, our principal, is hiring a new teacher to help handle the full array of subjects taught here. Also students are training for new technology certifications. Make an appointment to discuss how your child can obtain the IC3 certification, the Microsoft Office Specialist certification, the Certified Internet Webmaster's certification or the A+ computer repair certification.

Along with adding US Government, English 12, and other core courses for seniors, students are looking forward to new electives and internships at local businesses. Come and talk to Mr. Cross about your child attending YRA, our public school with a future in mind.

New computers and state of the art software allow students to accomplish more than ever before.  Small class size, no larger than a 12, allows each teacher to offer individualized attention. Students continue to seek out the latest technologies which have separated YRA from other public schools in the area.  The demand for workplace readiness skills keeps YRA in the forefront as one of the places where businesses can look for dedicated young first time employees.

As one of only two charter schools in Virginia, YRA is on the cutting edge of delivering instruction along with its innovative technologies.  Students participate in real life authentic assessments including creating Web sites for local businesses, delivering informational podcasts about current events, and conducting scientific research to ensure a healthy community.

If you want to see your high school child to participate in a learning experience where technology makes a difference in the community, then consider YRA as an alternative to your traditional public school.  Call 898-0516 to make an appointment with Walt Cross, the principal, and fill out an application today.
