Clubs & Activities
Anime
Art
Club
The
Art Club is open to students regardless of artistic
background. Members gather to explore the lives of
artists and to experiment with various creative media.
ATOMS
ATOMS (Adventures in
Technology Equals Options in Math and Science) is open to 7th and 8th
grade students interested in math and science careers.
Seventh graders host, twice per year, two guest speakers from the math
and science field. Eighth graders visit, twice per year, two
businesses involved in math and science careers.
Band
Battle
of the Books
Battle of the Books is team competition among local middle
schools based on students' knowledge of details of characters, plots,
and themes of selected novels.
Chess Club
CHROME
The CHROME Club is directed to minorities who are
interested in the fields of engineering, math and science.
Chorus
Dances
Dances are for all YMS students and help promote social
development. Admission to
each dance is $5.00.
Digital
Photography Club
The Digital Photography Club offers students the
opportunity to increase their technological prowess using state of the
art digital imaging equipment.
Drama
Club
The Drama Club meets
after school once a month. The students in the Drama Club
work on their dramatic skills during club meetings. Members
also help with the annual school play.
Ecology
Club
The Ecology Club is
for hardworking students who want to make a difference in the
environment. The Ecology Club is responsible for the
collection of recycling items throughout the school. Club
members also beautify the school grounds by planting flowers and
trees.
Falcon Fusion Student Newspaper
Foreign Language Club
The Foreign Language Club will expose the students to multicultural
experiences in the areas of literature, dance, drama and culinary
arts. The progam is open to all YMS students.
Intramurals
Intramurals is a biweekly
after school sports, fitness, and lifetime leisure activity program
open to all students. Emphasis
is on providing students with opportunities to strengthen skills
learned in the regular physical education program, explore new
activities and interests, and develop wholesome socialization skills on
a noncomptetitive, but yet challenging basis, regardless of skill or
ability level.
Just Say No
Literary
Magazine
The Literary Magazine, published in June of each school year, is a
presentation of student expression collected throughout the school
year. Student submissions of art, poetry, essays and narratives
are included in the Magazine.
Odyssey
of the Mind
Odyssey of the Mind
consists of a seven member team who works together to creatively solve
a problem. The team's solution is presented in an eight
minute skit before a panel of judges. The team consists of
7th and 8th grade students.
Rock Club
SCA
The Student Cooperative Association is composed of
the entire student body. Officers
and homeroom representatives meet to discuss student ideas and
concerns. Elections are held in September for interested
students.
Step Team
Yearbook
The Yearbook staff is
for responsible and dedicated students who will work hard to make the
yearbook the best it can be. The staff meets every week until
February when the last deadline is met. Staff
members learn to do layouts, take pictures, and also market the
yearbook.
