Ms. Smith
graduated with honors
from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree in
Theatre Education which certifies her to teach both English and Drama.
A native
of Prince George’s County, Maryland, Ms. Smith currently works as
the World
Literature and Drama teacher at York High School. Ms. Smith is honored
to teach
World Literature for she immensely enjoyed this subject in high school.
Ms.
Smith’s mission is to expose World Literature students to the
rich and diverse
literary works from across the globe.
She also works to increase student confidence about
reading and writing
through deconstructing and demystifying anxieties about both processes.
Ms. Smith has worked in various arenas as a
teacher, playwright, arts administrator, director, choreographer,
consultant,
and performer. She has won awards in
playwriting from both the N.A.A.CP and Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. Furthermore, Ms. Smith’s articles and
poetry
have been published in Worship Arts magazine.
Currently,
Ms. Smith is busy
working with the Drama Club, directing the fall one act play and the
spring
musical. Furthermore, she is also working on writing her own musical
and getting
certified as a holistic health consultant. In her spare time she enjoys
being
creative, studying holistic health and wellness, dancing, and listening
to
neo-soul music.
