Marcy Avery has been a professional artist
as well as an art teacher for 33
years. She has taught art at York High School for the past fifteen
years. Her classes have included art foundations, all advanced art
classes, fine crafts and computer graphics. Prior
to
teaching at York High, Marcy taught art at Tabb Middle School for
fourteen
years. Marcy has also taught art in fifteen elementary schools in the
City of Hampton and
at St. Mary Star of the Sea in Phoebus. She has also taught art in
adult education classes
for
Christopher Newport University and the City of Hampton.
Marcy received her B.A. in Art from Virginia
Tech in 1974.
She has also studied at the University of Salzburg in Austria. In
addition to
teaching art, Marcy has held various art jobs including archeological
illustrator for Colonial Williamsburg, marine biology illustrator for
VIMS,
entomology illustrator for the Virginia Tech Entomology Department,
freelance
architectural renderer, magazine illustrator and painter.
Her illustrations have been published in two
books, one written by Ivor Noel Hume of Colonial Williamsburg and
another by
Professor William Robinson of Virginia Tech.
